ChatGPT Go vs Plus comes down to reasoning models and ads. Go is the cheap tier for heavier everyday chat, uploads and images, and it may show ads. Plus costs $20/month, adds the GPT-5.6 Sol models, deeper research and more Codex and ChatGPT Work access, and has no ads. Pro is for people who hit Plus limits every week, and Business is the pick for teams.
Plan details below come from OpenAI’s pricing page and help center, checked on October 3, 2026. Plans and limits change often, so confirm on the pricing page before you pay. For a tool overview, see our ChatGPT tool page.

Two notes on the table. The $8 Go price is the US launch price from OpenAI’s January 2026 announcement, which also says Go pricing is localized in some markets. The live pricing page I fetched did not show dollar amounts, so check the checkout screen for your price. And Pro “from” means the lowest of three tiers, covered below.
Plan-by-plan breakdown
Free
Free gives unlimited text chats on GPT-5.6 Luna, subject to abuse guardrails. Uploads, image creation, voice, deep research, memory and Codex are all limited. Ads may appear. OpenAI also offers an “Ads-Free” setting on Free that removes ads in exchange for lower limits and reduced tool access, such as image generation and deep research.
Go
OpenAI describes Go as a low-cost plan with expanded access to popular features. You get everything in Free, plus more messages with tools, more uploads, more image creation, more voice chats and longer memory. Go also adds scheduled tasks and data analysis, and the pricing page lists a larger Instant context window than Free (54K versus 27K).
What Go does not include matters more for marketers:
- No GPT-5.6 Sol. Go users get GPT-5.6 Luna, including in the “Think” option for harder questions.
- No legacy models.
- Limited deep research and Codex.
- Ads may appear.
OpenAI does not publish message counts for Go. The January announcement said “10x more messages, file uploads and image creation than the free tier”, but the current help article gives no numbers. Treat any specific cap you see elsewhere as unverified.
Availability: Go is sold in all countries where ChatGPT is supported. Billing is in USD, with local currency in a limited set of countries. UPI is available for Go in India, and Pix, GoPay and GCash are supported in Brazil, Indonesia and the Philippines.
Plus
Plus is $20/month, billed monthly, with no annual option. Per the pricing page it adds GPT-5.6 Sol with Medium and High thinking, more accurate image creation (including image generation with Thinking), expanded deep research, expanded memory and context, interactive tables and charts, expanded Codex usage, and ChatGPT Work on desktop, web and mobile. It also includes apps that connect to internal tools, developer mode (beta) and early access to new features.
Plus does not include Extra High or Pro thinking levels, and OpenAI says limits apply. The help center says Plus may carry message caps during high demand and does not publish the numbers.
Pro
Pro now comes in three monthly tiers: Pro 100 ($100), Pro 200 ($200) and Pro 500 ($500). Pro 500 is the only one with Ultrafast speed. Per the pricing page, Pro includes Extra High and Pro thinking levels, “maximum” deep research, unlimited image creation subject to abuse guardrails, a larger context window (128K Instant, 400K reasoning) and Dot, an always-on agent. OpenAI’s model article lists GPT-6 Pro in Chat for Pro 100 and Pro 200; it does not mention Pro 500 there.
OpenAI is clear that “a Pro subscription does not include unlimited use of the GPT-6 Pro model.” Pro-model limits are weekly and daily allowances, and OpenAI recently lowered the allowance for new Pro 200 subscriptions while keeping the $200 price. If you plan to buy Pro, read the Pro tiers article first.
Business (for teams)
Business has a two-seat minimum. Standard seats are $25 per user per month billed monthly or $20 billed annually, and include ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work and Codex, plus GPTs, Projects, Apps, Company Knowledge, ChatGPT Agent and Deep Research. Premium seats are $125 monthly or $100 annual, with 5x the usage of Standard. OpenAI says it won’t train on your workspace’s data. Prices can vary by country.
Do Go, Plus or Pro show ads?
Go may. Plus and Pro don’t. OpenAI’s ads FAQ says ads “may appear for users on the Free and Go plans” and that “Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu accounts will not have ads.” Testing began in the US on February 9, 2026 and is rolling out by region, so not every Go user sees ads yet.
Per OpenAI, ads appear below a response, are labeled as sponsored, and don’t influence answers. They are not shown in Temporary Chats or near sensitive topics such as health or politics. Advertisers get aggregated data only, not chats. For how this affects marketers who advertise on the platform, read our ChatGPT ads guide.
If you use ChatGPT in front of clients, such as screen-sharing a strategy session, ads are the practical argument for Plus over Go.
Is ChatGPT Plus worth it for marketers?
For most people who use ChatGPT for paid work daily, yes. At $20/month it is a small cost next to what a few saved hours are worth. Plus is worth it if you:
- Need the stronger reasoning models for planning, analysis, long documents or messy data
- Run deep research for competitor, market or audience briefs
- Want fast responses and priority access when demand is high, which OpenAI lists as Plus benefits
- Use Codex or ChatGPT Work for automations, scripts or spreadsheet jobs
- Don’t want ads in a tool you use with clients
Plus is probably not worth it if you mostly draft short copy, brainstorm headlines and summarize pages. Free or Go covers that. At the $8 launch price, Go costs less than half of Plus, and unlimited text chats are on every plan.
Plus has limits, too. OpenAI doesn’t publish per-model message counts, so heavy users can still hit caps. If you hit them often, that is the signal to look at Pro or a second tool. Our Claude vs ChatGPT comparison and Gemini vs ChatGPT comparison cover the alternatives.
Which plan fits which marketer?
Freelancer or solo marketer
Start on Free to confirm ChatGPT fits your workflow. Move to Plus once you rely on it for client deliverables, research briefs or analysis. Choose Go only if your work is mostly writing and images, you can live with ads, and you never need the Sol reasoning models.
Content lead or in-house specialist
Plus is the default. Deep research, expanded memory, Projects and custom GPTs support briefs, outlines and recurring content tasks. If your company pays and wants consistent access for several writers, ask about Business instead of buying individual plans.
Agency
Individual strategists and analysts who push models hard may justify Pro 100. Most others are better served by Business, because it gives centralized billing, admin controls and a policy of not training on workspace data. That matters when you handle client information. Check your client contracts and OpenAI’s data terms before putting client material into any plan.
Team of 2 to 20
Business Standard at $25 per seat monthly, or $20 billed annually. Add Premium seats only for the people who run into usage limits. OpenAI’s Pro help article says sharing account credentials is prohibited, so don’t split one individual subscription across a team.
Power users
If you’ve hit Plus limits several weeks running, compare Pro 100 against buying credits or adding a second tool. OpenAI says credits can extend usage for eligible features in Codex and ChatGPT Work, but not every model or feature. Pro 200 and Pro 500 only make sense when you’ve measured that Pro 100 isn’t enough.
Choose Go if… Choose Plus if…
Choose Go if you want more than Free for uploads, images and memory, you’re price-sensitive, and ads are acceptable.
Choose Plus if you use ChatGPT for client work, need GPT-5.6 Sol, deeper research or Codex, or want an ad-free tool.
Choose Pro if you regularly exhaust Plus and your work justifies $100 or more per month.
Choose Business if two or more people need shared billing, admin controls and a workspace.
What OpenAI doesn’t publish
OpenAI does not list exact message counts for Go or Plus, or exact deep research quotas by plan. The pricing page uses words like “limited”, “expanded” and “maximum”. Plan before you buy by testing your own workload on the cheapest plan that has the features you need, then upgrade if you hit a wall. Subscriptions are monthly and can be canceled any time.
