Best ChatGPT Alternatives for Marketers (Free and Paid)

The best ChatGPT alternative for marketers depends on the job. Compare Claude, Gemini, Copilot, Perplexity, Mistral and DeepSeek, with free tiers and prices.

The best ChatGPT alternative for most marketers is Claude for writing, Gemini for a full free toolkit, Microsoft Copilot if you live in Microsoft 365, and Perplexity for sourced research. All four have free options. Which one is right depends on whether you mostly write, research, make images or work inside a specific app suite.

This guide covers seven assistants, what each costs on its official site, what it suits and where it falls short. Prices are US prices as of October 2026 and can vary by region or billing cycle.

Quick picks

  • Best for long-form writing and editing: Claude. Free plan available, Pro from $17 per month billed annually.
  • Best free all-rounder: Gemini. The free plan lists image generation, Deep Research, Canvas and Gems.
  • Best if you work in Word, Excel or Outlook: Microsoft Copilot, bundled into Microsoft 365 plans.
  • Best for research with citations: Perplexity. Free plan, Pro from $17 per month billed annually.
  • Best low-cost paid plan: Mistral Le Chat Pro at $14.99 per month.
  • Best to watch, with caveats: DeepSeek, which publishes API pricing but little on its chat plans.

How we picked

We looked at what each tool offers for marketing work: drafting and editing copy, researching topics and competitors, brainstorming ideas, working with images and files, and analyzing data. We also looked at whether there is a free tier and what a paid plan costs. We did not run side-by-side tests, so this is a guide to what each tool offers, not a ranking of output quality. Output quality shifts with each model release, so try your own prompts before you commit.

If you only need a baseline, read our page on ChatGPT for marketing and compare. For a wider set of tools in this space, browse the AI assistants category.

The best ChatGPT alternatives, one by one

Claude

Claude is Anthropic’s assistant. It suits drafting, rewriting and working through long documents, and it has a free plan.

Best for: long-form content, editing, and structured writing projects.

Key features: The Free plan includes chat on web, desktop and mobile, web search, file creation, code execution, memory, app connections and artifacts. Pro adds Claude Code, Projects, more Claude models, and Chrome and Microsoft 365 extensions, plus more usage than Free.

Pricing (as of October 2026):

  • Free: $0.
  • Pro: $17 per month billed annually, or $20 per month billed monthly.
  • Max: from $100 per month, monthly billing only, with 5x or 20x more usage than Pro.
  • Team Standard seat: $20 per seat per month billed annually, or $25 monthly.

Limits: Usage is metered, and Anthropic describes Pro as “more usage” than Free, not unlimited use. Heavy daily users may be pushed toward Max. See our Claude vs ChatGPT comparison for a direct look.

Gemini

Gemini is Google’s assistant. Its free plan lists more features than the other free plans here, which makes it an easy first alternative to try.

Best for: marketers who want image generation, research reports and Google Workspace integration at a low price.

Key features: The Free plan lists access to 3.6 Flash, varying access to 3.1 Pro, image generation and editing, Deep Research, Gemini Live, Canvas and Gems. Paid plans raise usage limits and add video generation, Gemini in Google apps (Gmail on AI Plus, Gmail and Docs on AI Pro) and storage. Google’s page says you can upload up to 1,500 pages of files and notes a 1M token context window on Pro.

Pricing (as of October 2026):

  • Free: $0 with a Google Account.
  • Google AI Plus: $4.99 per month, 2x the usage of Free.
  • Google AI Pro: $19.99 per month, 4x the usage of Free.
  • Google AI Ultra: from $99.99 per month (5x the usage of AI Pro), or $199.99 per month (20x).

Limits: Usage limits are compute-based. They depend on prompt complexity, features used and chat length, and refresh every 5 hours until you reach a weekly limit. Some features, such as Gemini 3 Pro in AI Mode, are only offered in select countries. Gemini in Gmail and Docs is listed only on paid plans. See Gemini vs ChatGPT for more.

Microsoft Copilot

Copilot is Microsoft’s assistant. Microsoft describes its paid plans as giving higher usage than the free version, and deeper features come with Microsoft 365 plans.

Best for: teams already working in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Key features: Microsoft’s Personal plan lists advanced Copilot chat with higher usage than the free version, plus AI image creation. Premium lists extensive Copilot chat usage, limited agentic AI capabilities and extensive image generation. See the Microsoft Copilot tool page for a profile.

Pricing (as of October 2026, US):

PlanMonthlyYearly
Microsoft 365 Personal$9.99$99.99
Microsoft 365 Family$12.99$129.99
Microsoft 365 Premium$19.99$199.99
Microsoft 365 Pro$99.99Monthly billing only

Limits: Microsoft’s page does not detail the limits of the free tier. On the Family plan, the page notes AI is for the subscription owner only. You pay for the whole Microsoft 365 bundle, so it makes the most sense if you would buy it anyway. Read Copilot vs ChatGPT before you decide.

Perplexity

Perplexity is an answer engine. It is built around cited answers, which makes it useful for research, competitor scans and fact-checking.

Best for: research, market and competitor questions, and anything where you need to see the source.

Key features: Perplexity’s site says every answer includes inline citations. Pro lists deep research, access to top AI models, the ability to choose between models, polished documents and apps, and higher usage limits and memory. Its Pro page lists models from several providers, including OpenAI, Google, Anthropic and xAI.

Pricing (as of October 2026):

  • Free: Perplexity’s help center lists a Standard (Free) plan, with limited Pro searches.
  • Pro: $17 per month when billed annually.
  • Max: $167 per month when billed annually.

Perplexity’s page does not show a month-to-month price, so check the checkout screen if you want monthly billing.

Limits: It is a research tool first. For writing a full article in your brand voice, a general assistant such as Claude or Gemini is usually a better start. Citations are a starting point, so open the sources and check them. The Pro page says the plans are for personal use only.

Mistral Le Chat

Le Chat is the assistant from Mistral AI. Mistral’s pricing page now labels the product “Vibe” and mentions “Vibe (or Le Chat)”. It is one of the cheaper paid options.

Best for: budget-conscious freelancers and small teams.

Key features: The Free plan lists web and mobile access, limited messages and web searches, limited coding sessions, image generation and $10 per month in API credits. Pro lists more messages and web searches, more image generations and chat and email support.

Pricing (as of October 2026):

  • Free: $0.
  • Pro: $14.99 per month. Students get a discounted $5.99 per month with verification.
  • Team: $24.99 per user per month.
  • Enterprise: custom quote.

Limits: The free plan has limited messages and searches, and Mistral does not publish the exact numbers on its pricing page. Mistral’s page puts weight on coding sessions, so check that the writing and research features you need are in the plan you pick.

Grok

Grok is xAI’s assistant, now presented on x.ai under the SpaceXAI name. It can search the web and X live, which suits social listening and trend checks.

Best for: quick trend checks and news-driven social content.

Key features: The official page lists real-time web and X search, step-by-step reasoning, image generation up to 2K resolution, video up to 15 seconds, file and PDF analysis, a writing canvas and memory across chats. It says Grok is free to try on web, iOS and Android, and that SuperGrok adds higher limits, priority access and multi-agent reasoning.

Pricing: Free to try. The SuperGrok price is not shown on the page we read, so check it at checkout.

Limits: Free usage limits are not published on that page. Treat live X results as signals to verify, not as sources to cite.

DeepSeek

DeepSeek is an AI research company. Its site links to a web chat and a mobile app, and it publishes developer pricing for its API.

Best for: technical users and developers who want to build with an API.

What is published: DeepSeek’s site lists several models, including DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash, which it describes as having native multimodal visual understanding. The API docs list deepseek-flash (DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash) and deepseek-v4-pro, each with a 1M context length. API prices are per 1M tokens and are cut by 50% off-peak. For example, Flash output costs $0.6 per 1M tokens off-peak and $1.2 at peak. See the DeepSeek tool page for a profile.

Limits: The pages we checked do not say whether the chat app is free or what paid chat plans exist, so we leave that out. Review its privacy policy and your company’s data rules before you paste in client or customer information. This applies to every tool in this list, but especially to any service hosted outside your region.

How to choose a ChatGPT alternative

Match the tool to the job instead of looking for one winner.

  • Writing blog posts, emails and ad copy: try Claude and Gemini on the same brief. Our AI writing tools list covers dedicated writing apps too.
  • Researching topics and competitors: start with Perplexity, and use Gemini’s Deep Research as a second opinion. Verify every claim you plan to publish.
  • Working inside Microsoft files: use Copilot, since it sits next to the documents you already edit.
  • Needing images or video: Gemini’s plans list image generation, and paid tiers add video. For dedicated design tools, see the free AI tools for marketing roundup.
  • Keeping costs near zero: use the free tiers of two tools, and upgrade only the one you open every day.

If you want to keep ChatGPT and compare, see ChatGPT on our tool directory. The full set of assistants lives in the AI assistants category.

Free vs paid: when to upgrade

A free plan is enough for occasional drafting, brainstorming and quick research. Upgrade when you hit usage limits during your workday, need larger file uploads, or want features such as Projects in Claude, Gemini in Gmail and Docs, or deep research in Perplexity. Because limits and plan contents change often, check the official pricing page on the day you subscribe.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best free ChatGPT alternative?

Claude, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, Perplexity and Mistral Le Chat all offer free access. Gemini's free plan lists the most marketing-relevant features, including image generation, Deep Research and Canvas. Claude's free plan is a strong pick if writing quality matters most.

Which ChatGPT alternative is best for research with sources?

Perplexity is built around cited answers and lists deep research on its Pro plan. Gemini also includes Deep Research, even on its free plan. Always open the cited sources before you publish anything.

Are paid ChatGPT alternatives worth it?

Only if you hit the free limits. Most paid individual plans sit between about $10 and $20 per month, so upgrade the one tool you use daily rather than several at once.

Can I use more than one AI assistant?

Yes, and many marketers do. A common setup is one general assistant for writing and ideas and one research-focused tool for sourced answers. Free tiers make it cheap to try each.

Do these tools generate images?

Some do. Gemini's free plan lists image generation and editing, and Mistral's free plan lists image generation. Microsoft's Personal plan lists AI image creation. For dedicated image work, see our image tool picks.
